• Britney Spears is back with Larry Rudolph
Posted by CrAzY on 01 Apr 2008 - COMMENT? 1
As Britney Spears continues to strive to get her personal and
professional lives back in order, OK! has learned she's turned to a
familiar face for help — former manager Larry Rudolph. Though the pair
had parted company a year ago, sources confirm exclusively to OK! that the "Toxic" songstress has once again been taken under Larry's wing.
Larry and Brit share a long and bumpy history. He was the visionary who
discovered the young star Britney and shepherded her career from teen
pop tart to international superstar. And when her life began to spiral
dangerously out of control in the weeks and months following her Oct.
2006 divorce from Kevin Federline, it was Larry who Britney's parents,
Jamie and Lynne Spears, turned to for help getting her into rehab.
After her brief stint at the Promises clinic in Malibu, Brit went
public with her ill-feelings toward Larry, chastising him on camera in
a bizarre, disjointed rant, for what she viewed as siding with her
folks against her.
However, Brit's dad has always been open about his positive feelings
toward Larry, even publicly thanking Larry for his efforts. And now
Jamie, who has continued to think the world of Larry both as a manager
and as a friend who has Britney's best interests at heart, has finally
convinced Britney to let him take over the reins of her recently
resurgent career.

• Us: Britney Spears Wows Critics!
Posted by Josh on 25 Mar 2008 - COMMENT? 0
Britney Spears' sitcom comeback Monday night was met with warm reception by critics. “She did pretty good” playing a dorky receptionist who falls for Ted (Josh Radnor) on CBS’ Hot I Met Your Mother, Charna Halpern, artistic director of Chicago’s Improv Olympic Comedy Club, tells Usmagazine.com. “There was a sweetness to her, a vulnerability. “She looked beautiful and had screen presence,” adds Halpern, who has trained such comedians as Tina Fey. “Even when she was behind the desk and they made her look kind of homely, she was adorable.” Her comedic timing “was good at some parts, especially in some of her reactions,” Dean Cudworth, director of the Idol Camp, tells Us. Cudworth said the scene where she handed Ted an embarrassing self-help book he had left in the lobby “really worked because she was relaxed,” Cudworth said. “She was listening to the other characters and played off their performances with ease.” Her role was “over the top, and she certainly went for it,” Aliza Shane, senior director of NYC’s Looking Glass Theater, tells Us. “Clearly, she likes being on camera, no one can argue that!” Source: Us

ET has a brand-new sneak peek at BRITNEY SPEARS on the set of "How I Met Your Mother." The pop princess plays a receptionist named Abby at Ted's (JOSH RADNOR) dermatologist's office. This marks her first acting gig since appearing on "Will & Grace" in 2006. Britney's episode of "HIMYM" airs Monday, March 24, on CBS.
Also guest-starring on the show is "Scrubs" doc SARAH CHALKE, playing Ted's new love interest. Sarah's appearance is a one-shot deal at this point in time, because she is still under contract to "Scrubs," so it remains to be seen if she could end up as the mother of his children.

• TMZ: Brit to Sam -- Have a Bitchin' Spring
Posted by Josh on 16 Mar 2008 - COMMENT? 0
TMZ has learned Sam Lutfi has agreed to back off the Brit for another 30 days.
We've learned Lutfi and the conservators have avoided the court showdown tomorrow by agreeing to extend the restraining order against Lutfi for 30 days. Under the existing order, which expires tomorrow, Lutfi must stay 2 1/2 football fields away from the Britster and basically have no contact with her at all. The parties have agreed to extend that order.
The Commish will sign off on the extension at the hearing tomorrow.
Sources tell TMZ there was a meeting between Lutfi and the conservators last week. Lutfi had been locked and loaded to fight any extension -- so it appears something that happened during that meeting changed his mind.
We're told Lutfi believes the restraining order extension is a good thing for both him and Brit.

• Britney's Surprise Dinner Companion: Mel Gibson
Posted by Josh on 16 Mar 2008 - COMMENT? 0
Only on Planet Britney. On Saturday Britney Spears started the day with another visit from her sons Preston and Jayden, and ended the evening at a Russian restaurant for a dinner meeting with Mel Gibson.
The actor and the pop star – once neighbors in an exclusive Malibu community – were part of a two-hour group dinner at the Romanov restaurant in Studio City on Saturday.
"It was exciting to have both of them here together," says one restaurant source. "We heard they hit it off and that Britney seemed excited."
Clad in jeans, a green top and boots and chewing gum, Spears arrived at the Romanov restaurant with her friend Victoria. Gibson, accompanied by a few friends, soon joined them in the restaurant's private dining room, which features a 24-karat gold leaf ceiling, an ornate fireplace and a library stocked with such works as Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace. For two hours the group dined on filet mignon and Russian specialties, and drank water and soft drinks.
Leaving the restaurant for her Studio City home around 8:15, Spears "looked happy," says an observer, "so it seems the meeting was a success."

• UCLA Medical Center fires 13 for snooping on Britney
Posted by Josh on 16 Mar 2008 - COMMENT? 0
The Medical Center is taking steps to fire at least 13 employees and is disciplining others, including doctors, for looking at the pop star's confidential files.
By Charles Ornstein Los Angeles Times Staff Writer 2:51 PM PDT, March 14, 2008
UCLA Medical Center is taking steps to fire at least 13 employees and has suspended at least six others for snooping in the confidential medical records of pop star Britney Spears, who was recently hospitalized in its psychiatric ward, a person familiar with the matter said today.
An additional six physicians also face discipline for peeking at her computerized records, the person said.
Questioned about the breaches, officials acknowledged that it was not the first time UCLA had disciplined workers for looking at Spears' records. Several workers were caught snooping after Spears gave birth to her first son, Sean Preston, in September 2005 at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital, officials said. Some were fired.
"It's not only surprising, it's very frustrating and it's very disappointing," said Jeri Simpson, the Santa Monica hospital's director of human resources, who handled the discipline in the first instance.
"I feel like we do everything that we possibly can to ensure the privacy of our patients and I know we feel horrible that it happened again."
Simpson said UCLA treats celebrities "all the time and you never hear about this."
"I don't know what it is about this particular person, I don't know what it is about her," she added, referring to Spears.
Hoping to head off such snooping, UCLA officials had sent a memo the morning Spears was hospitalized on Jan. 31, warning employees that they were not allowed to peruse records unless directly caring for a patient. Doing so is considered a violation of a federal patient privacy law called the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, which went into effect in 2003.
"Each member of our workforce, which includes our physicians, faculty, employees, volunteers and students, is responsible to ensure that medical information is only accessed as required for treatment, for facilitating payment of a claim, or for supporting our healthcare operations," chief compliance and privacy officer Carole A. Klove wrote in an e-mail to all employees.
"Please remember that any unauthorized access by a workforce member will be subject to disciplinary action, which could include termination."
Klove declined to discuss specifics of the most recent breaches today, saying they involved confidential patient and personnel matters. "We regularly monitor access to patient records, and in the event of an inappropriate access, we will investigate it, and if a violation if found, we will take appropriate action which can include termination."
Klove said she regularly reminds employees of patient privacy rules and said that all workers must sign statements of confidentiality when they are hired. The hospital is also considering having them sign such statements annually.
The records reviewed by those who are slated to be fired were not from Spears' most recent hospital stay, but rather from previous hospitalizations at UCLA, a source familiar with the matter said. Those disciplined include both medical and nonmedical employees, although no doctors were targeted for firing, the person said.
When employees access a patient's records electronically, they leave an electronic trail, which can later be traced back. "We advise all of our workforce that their password is their pin for lack of a better analogy, and it is their signature," Klove said. When it is used, the systems track which screens they view and for how long.
Those with access to clinical information include healthcare workers and others -- such as billing and admitting staffers -- who need to have that information to perform their jobs, she said. Housekeepers, for instance, would not have access to electronic medical records.
Nicole Moore, lead organizer for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 3299 at UCLA, said her union is representing three of the health workers who recently were told they would be fired. The hospital's employees are represented by several different unions.
Moore said she is trying to determine whether disciplinary actions were administered fairly.
"We believe that the university has a responsibility to their patients but also their employees to administer fair and consistent discipline to everybody, regardless of their position whether it's a doctor who violated it or a certified nursing assistant," Moore said.
Klove said doctors are overseen by a separate entity, the medical staff governing board, than other employees.
Spears was admitted to UCLA under Section 5150 of California's Welfare and Institutions Code, which allows patients to be held against their will for up to 72 hours for evaluation if they are deemed a danger to themselves or others. Her hold was extended.
Spears was released on Feb. 6, after nearly a week of treatment.
Other hospitals around the country have similarly disciplined employees for nosing around in patients' medical records.
In October, Palisades Medical Center in New Jersey suspended more than two dozen employees without pay for accessing George Clooney's medical records after he was injured in a motorcycle accident. Some reports suggested that the information was sold to the media, but a hospital spokesperson told reporters at the time that an internal inquiry could not confirm that.
Also last year, Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside fired a total of 10 nurses, secretaries and technicians for attempting to take pictures of patients and records. Another employee resigned and others "received corrective actions," the hospital said in a statement at the time.

• New interview with the producer of How I meet your mother
Posted by Josh on 14 Mar 2008 - COMMENT? 0
Given the relatively mind-blowing announcement Monday that Britney Spears would be taking a break from custody hearings and hospital visits to guest star on the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, we, along with the rest of everyone, were curious as to how that all went down. Spears will appear March 24, in the comedy's post-strike season's second episode, as the receptionist for Ted's tattoo-removal doctor (and new love interest), Stella. HIMYM co-exec producer Craig Thomas was kind enough to give EW.com the scoop on how it all went down, describing the tabloid target as a low-key scene stealer who just wanted to do a good job.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: You have Britney Spears on your television program. CRAIG THOMAS: We do.
How did that happen? Did she really call you? We were in the middle of a rewrite of the episode that’s shooting this week, and I kid you not when I tell you, the character we were writing a week ago today could not be, like, a nerdier, mousier, shier, sort of adorable little side character in the episode. Not the main character in the episode whatsoever. We were starting to audition people, didn’t find anyone perfect. And then we get a phone call, like Thursday, midday: “Britney Spears read the character breakdown and she likes the show and she wants to play the part.” When you’re writing that role and you’re describing it as a nerdy receptionist, Britney Spears is not the first name that comes up. But when we talked to her people, they were like, “Yeah, she just wants to do something small and funny and get to come in and play a character.” She wanted to act. And it all started to make more sense. They wanted to see a script right away, so like last Thursday evening -- we weren’t even done with our rewrite, and her people were gonna see her at like 6:30 for dinner. So we just sort of hit print and sent it over to her and figured she’d either like it or not. And turns out she thought it was really funny, and it was confirmed 24 hours later that Britney Spears was doing the show. It happened very quickly, and it was out of nowhere, and we did not seek it out at all. But ultimately, it has worked out rather nicely.
More after the jump.
When you say “her people,” who are you talking about? This was her acting agent. I think she was looking at a couple different shows, and ultimately she responded to this show the most.
There’s this perception that she’s not doing anything lucid, and so the notion that she’d have a master plan just seems incongruous. I don’t know. She seemed to have a very clear idea of what she wanted to do.
You didn’t mind casting her sight unseen? Greg Malins [a consulting producer on HIMYM] was at Will & Grace when she did an episode there. And from the moment he heard about this — I mean, we were literally sitting around the table in the writers’ room, rewriting the script, and our assistant Matt comes in and says, “You’re not gonna believe this, but they’re pitching Britney Spears for this role of Abby.” Malins, from moment one, was saying, “Just watch. She’s gonna be great. She’s gonna steal scenes.” He should have made some sort of bet on this. He would have made money.
Is Neil Patrick Harris [Barney] okay with that? He likes to be the one stealing the scenes. He got the script Saturday, but he was promoting Harold and Kumar at South by Southwest. He read the script from afar and just texted Carter and I, like, “Please, please, please give me a scene with Britney!” He didn’t have one in the original script, but we came up with a tag at the end of the episode that’s just between him and Britney’s character, and sure enough, it’s hysterical. When you watch it you sort of feel like it leaves the door open for Britney’s character to come back, too.
How much focus is her being around stealing from the business of making the show? Has it been a zoo over there? Not at all. It hasn’t felt like having one of the most famous people in the world on our set at all, because there’s no paparazzi on the lot, there’s no photographers, there’s no press. Her mom and dad stopped by for a few minutes and were really nice. She’s just been low-key and has wanted to do a good job. We all very quickly forgot that it was supposed to be this big huge deal. It sort of feels normal. Like, a guest actor coming into our show and doing a nice job and being cool about it. It had none of the Britney Spears that you see in the press, this experience.
Talk a bit about the episode itself. It's a very sweet, romantic comedy episode. I think it’s maybe the best one of those we’ve ever done, actually. Josh Radnor [Ted]: very good at that stuff. This one may be the best episode of season 3, I think. And on top of that, it’s gonna get a lot of extra press, because Britney’s on the show.
But besides Britney’s cameo, you think the episode will make viewers hang around? I think people will be surprised to see Britney playing this role, and I think people will enjoy that she’s really good in it. But aside from that, it just has to be a great How I Met Your Mother episode. Hopefully, extra people will watch, but we really want to make our fans happy, too.
You're still on the bubble for next season. If you can’t get the audience in with this carrot, is CBS going to think even harder about renewing the show? Boy, that’s a tough question. Obviously, it would be great if more people watched and said, “Hey, that’s a great show!” But all we can do is make great episodes. So it’s hard to think about that. I think we’ve given a great episode for CBS to sell to people and, hopefully, bring extra folks in.
And have them stick around. Let’s hope.
Has the cast hazed Britney at all, or are they giving her a pretty wide berth? Alyson [Hannigan, Lily] was really bummed out that she does not have a scene with her. Alyson really seemed to love Britney, and I think they hung out a bit on Monday and Tuesday, and then at the end of the day Tuesday, Alyson really wanted to become friends with Britney, but she was lamenting the fact that she doesn’t think she made quite enough inroads to do so. I think Britney felt comfortable here.
Yeah, but I was on-set the day Mandy Moore was there, and everyone was still sort of staring. Britney is Mandy Moore times a hundred. Everyone’s looking for signs of the crazy. Yeah, I mean, it didn’t seem like that big a deal to our cast. They liked her and wanted to befriend her. The only sign that Britney Spears was on our set, the only thing that was a little odd was that there were helicopters flying over our soundstage. Thank god, not close enough or loud enough to affect filming. The paparazzi can’t come on the Fox lot, so the helicopters, I guess, were hoping to shoot her on the 10-foot walk from the door to her trailer -- because apparently, that would be a really great photo? So we joked that Jason Segel [Marshall] should just try to run up to her and kiss her as though they’re dating and see if it gets a $10-$15 million bump for Forgetting Sarah Marshall [which features Segel] when it opens in a few weeks.
So has your experience with this made you think that all this tabloid hoo-hah is being reported incorrectly, or that Britney’s just both of these people at once: the train wreck, and the competent comedic actress? Boy, I feel like I don’t know her well enough to really comment on that. All I can say is that various friends and family have been emailing me, like, “What’s going on?? Has it been weird?” And it hasn’t been weird at all. It seems like she just wanted to come in and play a funny small part, and that’s just what she’s done. There’s been no real connection to the paparazzi part of her this week.
Craig, have you been hypnotized? I swear to god! I see no evidence of that whatsoever. You do feel, though, when you realize there are literally helicopters following this girl around -- like, “What is WRONG with the people in those helicopters? Why can’t people leave this girl alone?” It seems pretty absurd. You can’t help but feel sympathy for how weird that must feel.
